Meaningful giving

Giving from yourself from the bottom of your heart with no reward, for the sake of helping, bringing joy and cheer. “Song as a Gift” as a unique project of giving heart to heart by gifting a song and a personal greeting

“Songs as a Gift” is an element in the program where students gift a song with a personal dedication to their peers at the end of their course.

Examples of giving through “Songs as a Gift” by students to their peers at the end of their course:

Liat (23, student) about the song “You and I Will Change the World” (Ani ve’Ata Neshane et Ha’Olam) by Arik Einstein: “I’m glad I chose this course because I got to know profoundly people whose faces I see in other classes but haven’t had a chance to sit and talk to properly, talk for real. I felt the tasks during the course created a discussion that was open and honest and real between us and all thanks to the music. I’m finishing the course with the message that Arik Einstein sang better than everyone: “you and I will change the world”. We choose how to shape our lives, with whom to form relationships and in which situations. I feel the discussion through music contributed to me and can contribute to anyone in various circumstances, and create a world that is open, embracing and understanding among people who are like the colors of the rainbow. And it’s up to every one of us who participated in this course whether to take that on board or not.”

Lian (20, student) about the song “Movement” by Hozier: “For me the song represents the process I’ve been through during the course and probably many other students. Just like a movement, at first you hesitate, don’t know what to expect, a little embarrassed, then slowly you familiarize yourself with the space, the ground, the dynamic and eventually the outcome is a wonderful creation of flow, connection, support, empathy, acceptance, excitement, a magnetic and energetic feeling. So thank you for a surprising and exciting course that led to unexpected, impactful and unforgettable places.”

Rotem (24, student) about the song “Before It’s Over” (Lifney She’yigamer) by Idan Reichel: “I’ll start by saying thank you, for every Sunday I was filled with anticipation for the class and for every Sunday I left class with an idea, a question, an answer or excitement. Thanks for the space to connect to myself, to people who are close to me and to you through the music, thank you for the opportunity to enjoy the simple things in life. The song I chose represents for me one of the most meaningful insights I’ve reached during the course – there is no need to wait for a course task to create a venture that connects people, and there is no need to wait for a task to remind me to tell my mum how much I appreciate her or an old friend how important she is to me. This platform taught me to use music in various places in my life to open up, get to know and enjoy things more. Developing the venture filled me with empowerment of giving and connecting, and I wish myself and all of us will continue to develop it further…”

Leila (22, student) about the song “Just as I am” by Air Supply: “The song is dedicated to my amazing group in the course. Although it’s a love song it also deals with accepting the other. Our group was diverse in age, gender, study areas, cultures, countries of origin and faith. I felt that our group accepted and embraced this diversity. I was open to the rich variety of music styles we shared. I really enjoyed the diversity. I enjoyed very much the emotional assignments that connected us to each other and the funny moments. I really enjoyed working with you on the project. I’m sad to say goodbye. I hate goodbyes. But I will have a beautiful memory from this course. I wish great success to everyone whichever way you go. And remember our project: music connects us to our feelings and allows us to process our own emotions and our emotions towards others. It helps us express these feelings and deepen our relationships to achieve greater intimacy.”
